Fever Come Back to Upend Monarchs

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) _ Tamika Catchings had 21 points and 12 rebounds Friday night as the Indiana Fever overcame a 16-point deficit to beat the Sacramento Monarchs 67-60.

The Indiana rookie, who came into the game second in the WNBA in scoring with 18.3 points and fourth in rebounding at 8.8, had 15 points in the second half as the Fever erased a 31-26 Sacramento lead.

Frigid shooting by the Fever in the first half helped the Monarchs take a 31-15 lead with 4:30 to go in the period.

Indiana shot just 6-of-28 (21 percent) until that point. But the Monarchs, who started by hitting 13 of 24 shots, missed their next five attempts and had three turnovers. Rita Williams scored nine of Indiana’s next 11 points to cut the lead to five at the break.

The loss was the fifth in a row for the Monarchs (2-11), who got 24 points from Tangela Smith.

Nikki McCray added 16 points for Indiana (6-7), while reserve Lady Grooms had 14 for the Monarchs.

Catchings recorded her fifth double-double of the season.

The Fever had just seven turnovers, leading to only six points for Sacramento. The Monarchs had 14 turnovers, which led to 16 points by Indiana.
