Canadian woman sentenced to 7 years on terror charges
TORONTO (AP) — A woman who attacked workers at a Toronto-area store has been sentenced to seven years in prison.
Rehab Dughmosh was sentenced Thursday after she pleaded guilty last month on four terrorism-related charges for attacking workers at a Canadian Tire store with a golf club and butcher’s knife while draped in an Islamic State banner.
Justice Maureen Forestell says the 34-year-old woman’s mental illness played a significant role in the June 2017 attack.
One of the charges also stemmed from her attempts to join Islamic State militants in Syria.
The judge says Dughmosh’s illness, likely schizophrenia, made her vulnerable to extremist beliefs.
