Nominations sought for Woman of Merit Award

The Watertown branch of the American Association of University Women is seeking nominations for its 2019 Woman of Merit Award.

Each year this award is given to a Watertown area woman who has made exceptional contributions to her community, family, career and other. The award was initiated in 1983 and has recognized 47 women to date.

One of last year’s recipients was Shirley Crouch, coordinator of Loaves and Fishes, leader in the Women of the Moose, supporter of MooseHeart and MooseHaven and member of the local Heroin Summit. Carleen Schloemer, coordinator of Weekend Food to Go and Grow, initiator of Summer Sandwiches in the Park, member of the Shared Mission Group and retired pediatric school-based occupational therapist, was also a surprise recipient.

Nominations may be made by anyone, membership in AAUW is not required. Nomination forms are available at the Watertown Public Library, Madison Area Technical College-Watertown campus, Watertown Unified School District office and the Watertown Chamber of Commerce office, or by emailing Schloemer at johncarleen@sbcglobal.net. Nominations may be mailed or emailed and must be received by Monday, Feb. 11.

The Woman of Merit Award will be presented at a special evening dinner reception Thursday, March 14. Anyone interested in membership in AAUW is welcome to attend the dinner and award presentation.
