Border Patrol rescues 6 Honduran immigrants from Yuma canal
YUMA, Ariz. (AP) — Border Patrol officials say agents in southwestern Arizona rescued six immigrants from Honduras who nearly drowned in a canal.
They say agents assigned to the Yuma Sector Riverine Unit responded to the Salinity Canal about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities say there were people calling for help and struggling to stay afloat in the water.
Agents deployed bags designed for water rescues and got the six people out the canal with medical attention provided at the scene.
Border Patrol officials say two women ages 32 and 37 were among the migrants along with four juveniles ranging in age from 1 to 17.
They say all six were transported to the Yuma Station for additional processing and removal proceedings.
