Fort Wayne Police give more details in shooting by officer

July 30, 2018

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Fort Wayne police say a man shot and critically wounded by an off-duty officer had started to remove an “authentic-looking pellet-style handgun” tucked in his waistband when the shooting occurred.

Police say the man, 28-year-old Anthony Wayne Lincoln, remains in critical but stable condition in a hospital following the shooting.

Police spokesman Michael Joyner released a statement Monday saying the officer was off-duty and working a part-time assignment about 3 a.m. Saturday when Lincoln approached him as he sat in his vehicle. Joyner says the officer feared for his life when he shot Lincoln.

The officer’s name hasn’t been released. An investigation is continuing.
