Remember, Honor, Teach

December 20, 2018

STURGIS — Nearly 100 volunteers gathered at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis on Saturday morning to lay wreaths on the headstones of fallen veterans, in remembrance of their service and sacrifice. The event was one of around 1,400 locations nation wide participating in National Wreaths Across America Day wreath-laying ceremonies.

Wreaths Across America is a non-profit organization established to remember our fallen U.S. veterans; honor those who serve; and to teach children the value of freedom.

According to the Wreaths Across America website, “In many homes, there is an empty seat for one who is serving or one who has made the ultimate sacrifice in serving. There is no better time to express our appreciation than during the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. We will never forget.”
