PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State police say they made nearly three dozen alcohol-related arrests over the holiday weekend.
The Rhode Island DUI Task force says as of Monday afternoon, 34 people had been taken into custody across the state on suspicion of driving under the influence. Rhode Island State Police said they alone issued more than 200 citations from Thursday through Sunday afternoon, including 153 speeding tickets.
Police officials say they increased patrolling efforts as Labor Day weekend is historically one of the deadliest weekends of the year. Authorities say three people died in three separate crashes this weekend.
All three crashes remain under investigation. It’s unclear at this time if alcohol was a factor in any of them.
