SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Springfield police are investigating the city's third homicide of the year.

Officers responding to the city's gunshot detection system as well as several 911 calls at about 9:40 p.m. Sunday found 26-year-old Jhamal Cruz suffering from a single gunshot wound.

Police started life-saving efforts until EMTs arrived at the scene. Cruz was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not provided a possible motive but say the shooting does not appear to be random.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police.
