West Virginia man charged in 1981 death of 7-year-old boy
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) — A man has been charged in the 1981 slaying of 7-year-old Conrad Roger “C.R.” Diaz.
News outlets report convicted sex offender William Clyde Jeffries said at his Wednesday hearing that he doesn’t want a life sentence and wants to get treatment. Outlets report Harrison County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Detective Dixon Pruitt and State Police Cpl. Baron Claypool say 53-year-old Jeffries confessed to the slaying.
The State Police sex offender registry says Jeffries was convicted in 2002 of sexual assault and abuse of a male between the ages of 13 and 17. He was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison.
A criminal complaint from the decades-old case says Diaz suffered “multiple injuries resulting in his death” and doesn’t mention any motive. Jeffries would’ve been 17 at the time of Diaz’s death.
