National Write Your Congressman Quarterly Index Finds Small Business Owners’ Trust in their Own Members of Congress Up from Last Quarter, Healthcare as Top Business Concern
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jul 11, 2018--National Write Your Congressman (NWYC), an organization that gives small businesses a voice in American government, finds in its Q3 2018 Quarterly Index trust in business owners’ own elected members of Congress has increased from last quarter. Additionally, hope in U.S. Congress as a whole increased significantly – up from 26 percent in the second quarter of 2018 to 35 percent in the third quarter of 2018.
Thirty-five percent of business owners surveyed believe that their own members of Congress act according to their constituents’ opinion, which was an increase from the previous quarter. More than half of business owners surveyed agree their own elected members of Congress know their opinion on important issues.
Although satisfaction with Congress as a whole decreased, trust in Congress and hope in Congress for the year ahead increased. Findings also showed that business owners now see healthcare costs as their top business concern for the quarter, followed by taxes.
“Our business owner members are increasingly more satisfied with their own members of Congress as they have made their voices heard regarding business regulations and the tax law,” said Randy Ford, President and COO of National Write Your Congressman. “Since the passage of the new tax law and regulation rollbacks, business owners are hopeful for more action from Congress in the year ahead.”
NWYC’s Quarterly Index measures small business owners’ sentiment towards Congress as well as opinions on legislation affecting their business.
“Our Index has shown time and again the trust and hope in business owners’ own members of Congress is always higher than Congress as a whole,” said Ford. “This speaks to the importance of constituent communications on the local and state level to impact change for business.”
The NWYC Index Score, which takes into account six factors measuring small business owners’ trust, hope and satisfaction towards Congress and government, was up slightly from last quarter. Trust in the president increased slightly from last quarter, as well as trust in Congress.
NWYC provides members with non-partisan information and research along with the tools they can use to connect with their representatives in Washington and advocate for the policies and actions that will help their small businesses be successful for their families, their employees and their communities.
