OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) _ Infielder Russ Johnson was activated Thursday from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays' 15-day disabled list.

Johnson, out since May 15 with a strained right quadriceps, started at second base as the Devil Rays finished their three-game series with Oakland. Johnson, who was hitting .290 with three homers and 14 RBIs, missed 13 games with the injury.

The Devil Rays also placed shortstop Felix Martinez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday. Martinez, hitting .246 with eight RBIs, started all but one of Tampa Bay's first 39 games, but he made just one start in the next 13 games while struggling with left knee tendinitis.
