The Greenwich Academy cross country team ran its record to 13-3 by defeating all but one of its opponents Wednesday in an FAA meet held at Brunswick School.

GA beat Sacred Heart Greenwich, Greens Farms Academy, Holy Child, King School, Masters, Rye Country Day School and St. Luke’s School. Their loss came against Hopkins School.

Grace Lillis from Sacred Heart Greenwich won the race with a time of 20 minutes, 29 seconds. Cora Creighton of Greenwich Academy (20:37) placed second, followed by Maliya Ellis of Hopkins (20:46).

Caroline McCall of Greens Farms Academy was fourth (21:56), while Hannah Szado from Hopkins finished fifth (22:33).

Elena Brennan (Hopkins, 22:42), Kaitlyn Forman (Hopkins, 22:56), Elena Tan (Greenwich Academy, 23:02), Hailey Nillson (Greens Farms Academy, 23:08) and Dannie Bell (Holy Child, 23:17) rounded out the top-10 finishers.

Also leading Greenwich Academy were Julia Howe (11th, 23:38) and Kate Anderson (23:29). Clea Ramos finished the race in 26:30, while Sydney Pittignano clocked in at 27:11 for the Gators.

“It was a great performance by our whole team,” GA coach Jane Finch. “Everyone stepped up and race a great race.”

GREENWICH HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

The Cardinals won their second straight match, sweeping visiting Stamford 3-0 in an FCIAC matchup.

Greenwich took the match 25-18, 25-18, 25-18.

Senior Carolina Lew registered 12 service points and seven digs, while senior Amelia Bartlett had three kills and nine service points for Greenwich.

Sophomore Lilly Saleeby notched 11 kills, three aces and five digs in the winning effort. Greenwich, which raised its record to 7-3, received four kills from Ella Morrissey.

The Cardinals are in action again Thursday at Norwalk.

SACRED HEART VOLLEYBALL

The Tigers suffered a 3-0 loss to visiting Hopkins School in an FAA match.

Hopkins won the match by set scores of 25-23, 25-16, 25-16. Kellie Ulmer had 11 kills, 17 digs and two aces for Sacred Heart (1-9). Olivia Lockwood registered nine kills and two blocks, while Natalia Pazos tallied 11 kills, 23 digs and one ace.

Morgan Wilkens added 29 aces and nine digs.

“The first set was the best set we’ve played all season,” Sacred Heart coach Beth Wilson-Jordan said. “The second set, we made too many unforced errors, which hurt us.”

GREENWICH HIGH FIELD HOCKEY

Receiving goals from five different players, Greenwich extended its winning streak to three games, defeating Danbury 5-0 in an FCIAC field hockey matchup Wednesday at Cardinal Stadium.

Freshman Zita Cohen registered one goal and two assists, while senior Paige Finneran had one goal and one assist to ignite the Cardinals (6-3).

Senior Sam Chabot started the scoring for Greenwich, tallying off an assist by Finneran at the 25:09 mark of the first half. Finneran made it 2-0 with 13:20 to go in the opening half. Cohen assisted on the goal. Eva Serra, a senior, tallied with 4:20 to go in the first half, with Cohen once again getting the assist.

Junior Allie Simpson’s goal put GHS on top, 4-0, and Cohen sealed the scoring, converted a pass from Cohen. Augustina Ferrario also had an assist in the winning effort.

Greenwich visits FCIAC rival Darien Thursday at 1 p.m., then hosts Norwalk Monday at 4 p.m.
