May 1, 2019

PLAINVILLE - Officials are investigating the cause of a blaze that sent a family of five fleeing from their Hardwood Street home early Wednesday morning.

The family woke up at about 4 a.m. to the smell of smoke and discovered one end of the single0family home was fully engulfed in flames, according to Plainville Fire Marshal Larry Sutherland.

The family, which included two adults and three children, made it out safely, he said.

Firefighters have the blaze under control and an investigation into the cause is under way.

The American Red Cross has been called to help the family out, Sutherland said.

There were no injuries reported, he said.

Fire officials will be looking into whether the home had working smoke detectors as part of the investigation.
