Marine Found Dead at Camp Pendleton
CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (AP) _ A body found in the woods over the weekend at Camp Pendleton was identified Wednesday as that of a 20-year-old Marine.
The results of an autopsy had not been released Wednesday. The Naval Criminal Investigative Services is handling the death as a homicide.
Marine officials said Brian Akers, a lance corporal with the First Marine Division, was stationed at Camp Pendleton, about 40 miles north of San Diego.
His body was found Sunday by a hunter. Marine officials said it appeared that Akers had been dead at least a day.
Akers was from Kevela, Mich.
