BOSTON (AP) — A 30-year-old Boston man has been ordered held on $75,000 bail after he allegedly robbed men he lured via social media.
Rakeem Austin is charged with nine armed robberies that occurred between Oct. 2 and Nov. 21. He had initially been charged with five robberies, but a grand jury investigation developed evidence in four more cases.
Police allege Austin used a dating app to lure men to rendezvous with what they thought were women.
Instead, Austin stole their cash, wallets, cell phones, jewelry and other valuables. At the time, Austin had been out on bail in connection with a series of breaking and entering incidents.
Austin’s lawyer Michael Roitman didn’t immediately comment. The district attorney’s office says he hasn’t yet posted bail. Austin is due back in court April 22.
