Minor Leaguer Allegedly Stabbed
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) _ A minor leaguer in the Kansas City Royals organization was allegedly stabbed by a teammate after an argument Thursday, team officials said.
Jose Durand, 20, a catcher for the Spokane Indians of the Class A Northwest League, was stabbed in the hand in a fight with Rafael Garcia, according to a statement released by the Royals late Thursday. The fight started in Garcia’s apartment and moved into a parking lot before it was broken up by teammates.
Garcia, 21, a pitcher for the Indians, was arrested and charged with second-degree assault.
Garcia, a native of the Dominican Republic, will be arraigned Friday and could face deportation if convicted.
