Goodrich sets record, beating Chester 144-6

GOODRICH, Texas (AP) _ Chester must have known it was in big trouble when it came out of the first quarter Friday down 44-2 to Goodrich.

Chester didn’t know the half of it as Goodrich went on to obliterate its East Texas Piney Woods rival 144-6.

The 138-point margin set a record for most lopsided game on record by a Texas high school, beating a 132-point record set in 1963 when Aspermont beat Mason 143-11 and tied last month when Avalon beat Penelope 150-18. In a rematch Friday night, Avalon beat Penelope 73-22.

Goodrich led 44-2 after one quarter, 87-4 at the half and 107-4 after three quarters.

Chris Wyatt led Goodrich with 31 points. Demarcus Bogany added 18, Elton Miles 16, T.J. Bennett and Brandon Miles 15, Jeremy Bennett 14, Quincy Wyatt 13, Brandon Garrett 12 and Kodi Wyatt 10.

Royce Jackson led Chester with two points.

Goodrich (28-1) had earned a Class A district title Tuesday.

Goodrich is a town of 250 about 65 miles northeast of Houston. Chester, a town of about 300 residents, is located about 30 miles east of Goodrich.
