Police: Mistreated dogs found during drug raid

October 3, 2013

MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Police say they found 17 pit bull dogs living in squalor during a drug investigation at a Middleborough home that also yielded five guns, $50,000 worth of narcotics and $29,000 in cash.

The resident of the home, 30-year-old John Campbell, was held on $500,000 bail after pleading not guilty at his arraignment on drug and animal cruelty charges Wednesday.

Lt. Peter Andrade tells The Enterprise (http://bit.ly/GAOGVJ ) of Brockton that the pit bull puppies were stuffed in a small cage with a filthy bowl of water. Thirteen required immediate veterinary care.

Police have been investigating the home for about a month. They say Campbell protected the house with infrared security cameras.

The raid netted 1,500 Percocet pills 100 grams of cocaine, and five guns, two of which have been reported stolen.
