Teen charged with murder in death of newborn put in dumpster
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A 15-year-old Philadelphia girl whose newborn son was found in a dumpster has been charged with murder and other offenses.
Authorities say a woman approached some police officers around 10:30 p.m. Monday and told them she had found a baby that had been placed in the dumpster by her daughter’s friend. The woman and the baby were taken to a hospital, where the baby was pronounced dead.
Officers then went to the home of the daughter’s friend. The girl who had given birth and her mother were taken to a police building, and the teen was later taken to a hospital for what authorities said was “precautionary medical treatment,”
The teen was charged Tuesday with murder, child endangerment, possession of an instrument of crime, and abuse of a corpse. It’s not known if she’s retained an attorney.
