Teen Killed in West Bank Explosion
HEBRON, West Bank (AP) _ A 13-year-old Palestinian boy was killed and a 17-year-old lost a leg Tuesday, apparently after they picked up explosives near an Israeli firing range in the West Bank, a Palestinian security official said.
The incident occurred near Yatta, a village south of the West Bank town of Hebron, said Capt. Khaled Maraka of Force 17, an elite security unit.
The dead boy was identified as Adam Halees from Yatta. His friend, seventeen-year-old Mithkal Amar, was in critical condition at Alia Hospital in Hebron after losing a leg and sustaining burns, doctors said. Amar’s 3-year-old brother, Mohammed, was treated at the scene and released.
The Israeli army said it was looking into the incident.
