Evangelist Billy Graham Hospitalized at Mayo Clinic Hospital
ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) _ Evangelist Billy Graham has been admitted to a hospital for cardiac tests after Mayo Clinic doctors gave him a stress test, the evangelist said.
Graham, 66, said in a telephone interview Wednesday from St. Marys Hospital that he had no cardiac symptoms, but doctors wanted to perform an angiogram after he underwent a routine treadmill stress test on Tuesday.
The outcome of the angiogram probably won’t be known until Thursday, Graham said. The procedure involves threading a catheter into the heart and injecting a dye so doctors can get a sharp diagnostic X-ray reading on the condition of heart vessels.
The evangelist said he was exhausted from a strenuous crusade in Romania and Hungary, but came to Mayo mainly because of a diaphragmatic hernia he wanted to have examined.
Graham told the Rochester Post-Bulletin he expects to be released from the hospital later this week and plans to return in January or February for surgery on the hernia.
