Falcons Pick Up Pair of Victories
The Fitchburg State softball team earned a sweep on the third day of the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday as the Falcons defeated La Roche College in the opener, 9-2, before registering a 9-0 shutout victory over Clarks Summit College in their second contest of the day.

Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Fitchburg State scored six runs as senior Nicole Sylvester plated classmate Michelle LeBlanc and freshman Morgan Cormier with a double to right before senior Maddie Medina and newcomer Lundyn Forcier added RBIs in the frame for the 7-2 advantage.
The Falcons upped their margin in the bottom half of the sixth with freshman Olivia Pietersen doubling home senior Melissa DiPhilippo before LeBlanc drove in Pietersen with single through the left side.
Pietersen sparked Fitchburg State’s offense in first game, going 3-for-4 with a double, triple, a run scored and two RBI.
Mikayla Harnois picked up her second victory of the season for the Falcons, giving up two runs on five hits with one strikeout in five innings of work.

Fitchburg State grabbed a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first as Pietersen singled home Forcier before Sylvester crossed the plated on a wild pitch.
The Falcons broke the game open in the bottom half of the third, scoring seven runs with freshman Audrey Johnson notching a base hit up the middle to plate Sylvester before Cormier then proceeded to rip a two-run triple to right-center.
Senior Michaela Keenan followed with an RBI single to right, while junior Emma Campbell and Forcier added RBI singles.
Campbell notched her second win on the year, going four innings, allowing just one hit with two Ks for the Green and Gold
The Falcons (4-2) return to action on Thursday as they take on Greenville and Lycoming in day four action of the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.
Women’s lacrosse falls to SUNY Canton
The Fitchburg State women’s lacrosse team was defeated by SUNY Canton, 15-3, Tuesday morning at the Spring Fling Games in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Junior Rebecca Fisher scored the lone Fitchburg State goal in the first half, as the Falcons went to the break down 5-1.
Following the break, the Kangaroos extended their lead to 13-1 before freshman Julia Miele connected on back-to-back markers to make the score 13-3, before SUNY Canton closed things out with a pair of goals.
Marguerite Belcher turned aside eight shots, while freshman Brianna Smith chipped in three saves for Fitchburg State.
The Falcons (1-2) return to action on Thursday as they take on Smith College in their final contest of the Spring Fling Games at 7 p.m.
