Historic covered bridge to be closed for rehab work
SHARON, Conn. (AP) — A historic covered bridge in Connecticut will be closed for four weeks this fall.
WVIT-TV reports the West Cornwall covered bridge will be closed from Sept. 4 through Oct. 2 for rehabilitation work. The Connecticut Department of Transportation says they will provide a detour during the closure.
The project will cost about $1.4 million and is expected to be completed in fall 2018.
The West Cornwall bridge was built in 1864. It crosses the Housatonic River at U.S. Route 7 and state Route 128. The iconic wooden bridge was featured in the 1967 film “Valley of the Dolls.”
