Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing

The inaugural Slicer Athletic Booster Club Golf Outing will be on May 19 at Beechwood Golf Course with registration and lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Information concerning hole sponsorships, or to register a team may be found on the La Porte High School athletic department website, by contacting the LPHS athletic department, or emailing Ed Gilliland at egilliland@lpcsc.k12.in.us.

Marquette to face Andrean again

Marquette Catholic will play Andrean in Saturday’s Class 2A North Judson Regional in a rematch of last year’s semifinal. The Blazers (16-8) lost to the 59ers (17-8) 69-55 on Jan. 5. The game is scheduled for 9 a.m. Defending champion Westview and Bluffton meet in the second game with the championship set for 6 p.m.

La Lu’s Stewart tabbed to USA Nike Hoop Summit

La Lumiere School’s Isaiah Stewart has been named to the 2019 USA Nike Hoop Summit Team that will play in the 22nd annual Nike Hoop Summit at 9 p.m. CST on April 12 at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The Nike Hoop Summit is an annual basketball game that pits top U.S. high school senior boys against a World Select Team comprised of elite international players who are 19 years old or younger. Stewart, a University of Washington verbal commit, earned a Gold medal at the 2018 FIBA U17 World Cup. Stewart is ranked the No. 4 player in ESPN’s class of 2019.

Kesling Middle, La Porte High staff vs. student charity hoops games

The Kesling Middle School Student Council, along with the La Porte High School Student Council, will host staff versus student basketball games to help raise funds for Riley Children’s Hospital on March 15 at LPHS. This is the first time the two councils have worked together on a project like this and this is the first time the high school has had staff play against students in a game. The middle school poms/dance team will perform at the middle school game. There will be two games, with the middle school starting at 5:30 p.m. against members of the boys and girls eighth-grade basketball teams. The high school will play after that game with staff against members of the boys and girls high school teams. Admission costs $5 per person. There’s no senior or student rate.

La Porte Elementary Wrestling Camp

Students in grades K-5 (boys and girls age 5-11) are invited to participate in a wrestling skills camp hosted by the La Porte Wrestling Program. Camp begins Tuesday and will conclude on March 22. Camp session will be every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 5-6 p.m. at the La Porte High School wrestling room.

There’s two ways to register your wrestler. 1. Email lkuzdas@lpcsc.k12.in.us. Enter “Camp Sign-Up” in subject. Information needed: Name of wrestler, age, approximate weight, school, grade, and T-shirt size. After the e-mail is received, the coach will confirm your registration with a reply message. Registration begins now and continues through the first week of camp. 2. Register in person at the first week of the camp next week. Payment can be made at sign up, or on the first day of the camp on Tuesday. Make checks out to “La Porte Wrestling Club.” The cost is $50 and includes nine training sessions and a camp T-shirt. La Porte Wrestling Club members receive a reduced cost of $25. Discounts for additional siblings. La Porte Parks Youth Sports sign-ups

The La Porte Park and Recreation Department continues to take youth boys baseball, girls slowpitch softball, T-Ball and tennis lesson registrations at the Park Office, 250 Pine Lake Ave. Office hours are weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Registration is also available online at www.cityoflaporte.com. Keeping sports fun, especially in the early stages of youth participation, is the primary concern of the park programs. The department promotes participation for all, positive competition and building character, as well as teaching fundamentals and traditions of the game, championing sportsmanship and encouraging family and community support. The Park Department offers Need-Based Scholarships to assist youth who do not have the financial means to participate in recreation programs. The scholarship must be applied for by the child’s parent and/or guardian and they must meet the criteria for financial need.
