High school student hit by stray bullet near campus
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police in Philadelphia say a high school student was hit by a stray bullet about a block away from campus, and is in stable condition at a hospital.
Police Commissioner Richard Ross tells The Philadelphia Inquirer the junior at Central High School was walking to school when gunfire erupted Monday morning.
He says she was hit in the shoulder and managed to run to the school and go to the nurse. She was taken to a hospital.
Ross says the gunfire came from two males who were shooting either at each other or a third person, and calls it “idiotic behavior.”
Investigators are looking at surveillance video and seeking witnesses.
Ross says the girl will be ok, but that doesn’t lessen the trauma for her, her parents and classmates.
