Blanco Upset in Gelsor Tennis Open

BUCHAREST, Romania (AP) _ Marc Lopez of Spain upset countryman Galo Blanco 6-2, 6-2 Monday in the opening round of the $400,000 Gelsor Open.

Lopez, a 19-year-old qualifier, eliminated the fifth-seeded player from the clay-court tournament.

``I didn’t think I would win,″ Lopez said.

Sixth-seeded Jerome Golmard of France made it to the second round, downing Andrew Ilie, a Romanian-born Australian, 6-2, 6-2.

Tomas Behrend of Germany won a first-set tiebreaker and defeated Jose Acasuso of Argentina 7-6 (7), 6-4. Felix Mantilla of Spain routed Markus Hipfl of Austria 6-0, 6-1.

In an all-Romanian match, Gabriel Trifu topped Ion Moldovan 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (5). Fernando Vicente of Spain easily advanced to the second round with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Hugo Armando of the United States.

Andrei Pavel of Romania is seeded first and will play Jiri Vanek of the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
