MIDDLEBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) _ A cyclist riding in a 200-mile bicycle ride for charity died Saturday after being hit by an 18-wheeler.

The man, whose name was not immediately released, was one of 3,000 cyclists participating in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Ride, which raises money for cancer research.

The biker was hit on Route 28 after he got lost and rode off the designated route for the race, according to a statement from Bill Starr, founder and executive director of the race.

``Everyone who rides is part of the PMC family,″ Starr said. ``This is a very sad day for all of us.″
