Yankees Call Up Pitcher Yarnall

July 6, 2000

NEW YORK (AP) _ The Yankees recalled left-hander Ed Yarnall from Columbus on Thursday to start against the Baltimore Orioles and optioned infielder Clay Bellinger to the Triple-A club.

Yarnall, expected to be the No. 5 starter this season, struggled in spring training and missed time in the minors with a back injury. Yarnall, making his third career start, was 1-1 with a 5.31 ERA in nine starts at Columbus.

Bellinger was hitting .214 with four homers and nine RBIs, but has gotten less playing time since the Yankees traded for Jose Vizcaino.
