South-side church damaged by fire
A south-side Fort Wayne church suffered heavy damage from a Monday morning fire.
At about 10:30 a.m., the Fort Wayne Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Unity Worship Center, 4101 Holton Ave. Firefighters found fire coming from multiple locations throughout the two-story church. The fire was so intense by the time crews arrived that reinforcements were called in to help.
“Due to fire conditions on multiple floors of the structure and floors and ceilings beginning to collapse, crews were withdrawn and water was applied from the exterior of the building to knock down the heavy fire inside,” a FWFD report states.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was under control within an hour. Firefighters were assisted by the Three Rivers Ambulance Authority, the Fort Wayne Police Department, NIPSCO, Indiana Michigan Power and Neighborhood Code Enforcement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
