Greg Myre Named Moscow News Editor

MOSCOW (AP) _ Middle East News Editor Greg Myre has been appointed news editor in Moscow for The Associated Press.

The appointment was announced Thursday by Moscow Chief of Bureau Barry Renfrew.

Myre, 35, has been Middle East news editor, based in Nicosia, since 1995. He succeeds Deborah Seward, who has accepted a Nieman fellowship and is taking a leave of absence.

Myre, who was born in St. Louis, joined the AP in Washington, D.C., in 1983 and transferred to Miami in 1985. A Yale University graduate, he was promoted to the International Desk in New York in 1986 and posted to Johannesburg a year later. In 1990 he was named news editor in South Africa. He was appointed chief of bureau in Islamabad, Pakistan in 1993.
