Ronald Gene Veal

Ronald Veal, 77, of Columbus, died July 5, 2018, at Columbus Community Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 11 at the Columbus Berean Church with Pastor Justin Bebb officiating. Interment will be in the Bartlett Cemetery in Bartlett. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 10 at Gass Haney Funeral Home and continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
Ronald Gene Veal was born May 25, 1941, in Holdrege, to John and Lorene (Smith) Veal. The family moved to Scottsbluff when Ron was an infant. He grew up and attended school in Scottsbluff, and graduated from Scottsbluff High School. While in high school, Ron was active in track, participated in shotput, and was a state gold medalist in discus. Ron learned his carpentry skills while helping his father build homes during the summer.
Ron entered the United States Air Force on Dec. 3, 1962, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 2, 1967. He attended Kearney State College where he earned his BA and MA. He taught Industrial Arts at Columbus High School his entire career. On July 13, 1974, Ron was united in marriage to Marcia Olson in Ericson. To this union two daughters were born, Paula and Marla.
Ron enjoyed gardening, wood working, and collecting and setting up model railroads, a hobby he had his entire life. He attended Columbus Berean Church and participated in a weekly men’s Bible study.
Ron is survived by wife Marcia Veal of Columbus, daughter Paula Veal of Dallas, daughter Marla (Adam) VanBeek of Orange City, Iowa; granddaughter Gracie Gene, sister Kathy (Bob) Havekost of Elgin, Texas; sister Linda Veal of Scottsbluff.
Ron was preceded in death by parents John and Lorene Veal, and grandparents.
