Former Utah Supreme Court Justice Ronald Nehring dies at 71
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Supreme Court Justice Ronald E. Nehring, one of the court’s few members who wasn’t a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, has died. He was 71.
Daughter Jesse Nehring said Saturday her father died Friday of complications from radiation treatment he received in 2003 to treat cancer.
Then-Gov. Michael Leavitt appointed Nehring to the state Supreme Court that year, and the Salt Lake Tribune reports that Nehring brought his cancer doctor to his Utah Senate confirmation hearing to vouch for his health.
Nehring retired from the court in 2014.
He is survived by his wife, Kristina, and their son Lincoln and their daughters Jesse and Kyle.
A memorial service is scheduled June 3 at Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church in Park City.
