MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — It was just a year ago that Virginia was knocked out of the NCAA tournament in the first round by a 16th-seeded team. Tonight, the Cavaliers hope to complete one of the biggest turnarounds in college basketball history. A victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders will give Virginia the college hoops title.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — American college basketball barely registers overseas, but there has hardly been an NCAA championship game with more of a global presence than this one between Texas Tech and Virginia tonight. Eight players hail from countries outside the United States. Red Raiders guard Davide Moretti of Italy is the most prominent. The Cavaliers have five international players.

UNDATED (AP) — Some hot teams are in action tonight in major league baseball. The Seattle Mariners are off to the best start in team history at 9-and-2. They are looking to continue that success tonight in Kansas City, against a Royals team that’s won just two of its first eight games. The Atlanta Braves are now 5-and-1 since they were swept at Philadelphia to start the season. They are in Colorado tonight to take on the Rockies.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn says a gymnast who suffered devastating leg injuries during an NCAA regional semifinal is undergoing surgery today. Auburn’s gymnastics coach says senior Samantha Cerio suffered two dislocated knees during the competition Friday in Baton Rouge. The meet was delayed while medical workers put splints on both of her legs. They carried her out of the Center to a standing ovation. The gymnast later tweeted saying she’s doing well and resting.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Detroit Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill will lead the U.S. at the men’s world hockey championship next month in Slovakia. USA Hockey announced today that Blashill would be back to coach the team for a third straight year. The Americans finished third last year and fifth in 2017.
