County Flood Authority Fills New Deputy Director Position

August 1, 2018

PLAINS TWP. — The Luzerne County Flood Protection Authority has filled the newly created position of deputy director. The authority board last month appointed Clinton Sorber to the position, which the board created in March at the urging of authority Executive Director Chris Belleman. Sorber accepted the job and will start work in September, according to Belleman. He will be paid a salary of $58,500, which will increase to $60,000 when he obtains his professional engineer license. Sorber has worked for Borton-Lawson Engineering for the past four years as a water resources engineer. He graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering and has his Engineer in Training certificate, according to Belleman. When he asked the board to hire a deputy director, Belleman noted he is the only licensed engineer on the authority staff. Someone else should be trained to help manage the Wyoming Valley levee system, he said. Authority board member Richard Adams voted against creating the deputy director position in March. He also voted against hiring Sorber last month, but he said his vote did not reflect on Sorber. The position is not needed at this time, Adams said. — ERIC MARK
