Orin C. “Sonny” Allen Jr., 76, of North Sioux City, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at Accura Healthcare.
Per his wishes, Orin will be cremated and a celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.
Orin was born on May 8, 1942, in Richland, S.D., son of Orin C. Allen Sr. and Viva (Shoop) Allen. He graduated from Sergeant Bluff High School.
Orin was known as Sonny by his family. He enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1960 and was honorably discharged in 1966. He came back to the United States and married Sharon Kay Lewis on Nov. 23, 1967.
Orin worked at GTA/Harvest States Grain Elevator and AG Processing (soybean plant) for most of his life, retiring in 2008. He loved to read, watch TV, play cards and other games, and go for long rides. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his great-grandson, Keenan.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Sharon Allen; daughter, Sherri K. (Allen) Dudley; granddaughter, Brittany Lynn Allen; great-grandson, Keenan Andre Allen; sisters, Marlis (Fred) Welch of Mt. Vernon, Wash., and Janice (Jim) Conway of Emerson, Neb.; brothers, Garry Allen of Sloan, Iowa, Ron Allen of Sergeant Bluff, and Steve (Myrtie) Allen of Lawton, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and other family.
Orin was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father-in-law, Ruth and Roger Lisenby; father-in-law, Virgil Lewis; sister, Joyce Getz; sister-in-law, Kathy Lewis; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Lewis.
