Cleveland stabbing leads to standoff in Hough neighborhood, police say

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A suspect in a Cleveland stabbing held a woman and child at knifepoint Tuesday before he fled into a field, police said.

Cleveland police officers surrounded the man in a field shortly after 3 p.m. on Addison Road near East 79th Street, police said. He is not yet in custody but negotiators are speaking with him, a police spokeswoman said about 3:15 p.m.

The woman and child are not with the man, police said.

Authorities used a beanbag shotgun while trying to arrest the man, but it was ineffective, police said.

A Cleveland police spokeswoman did not immediately provide any additional information about the stabbing.
