UMass Lowell Opens New Research Facility in Lincoln
LINCOLN -- UMass Lowell leaders, elected officials and representatives from the military gathered Tuesday to mark the opening of the university’s new Research Institute.
The institute, located in Lincoln just down the road from Hanscom Air Force Base, will host a variety of public-private sector partnerships, including workforce development for defense industry personnel, research opportunities and more.
“This research institute is just another step in elevating this university, taking it to the next level, realizing our commitment to this great commonwealth and great nation,” said UMass Lowell Chancellor Jacqueline Moloney.
Following a speaking program, Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito cut a ceremonial ribbon marking the institute’s opening.
Three full-time employees and two part-time employees have already begun their work within the new program, helping engineers in Washington and at Hanscom collaborate on technical interchange, officials said.
