Heard on the Street: New teriyaki place cooking in SW Rochester

July 15, 2018

A flavor is cooking in a high-profile spot on Rochester’s Second Street Southwest.

Kibo Teriyaki Express is working on revamping a space across from Mayo Clinic’s Saint Marys Hospital.

The new eatery is moving into the spot at 1219 Second St. SW, which was recently left empty following the closure of Tinn’s Grilled Philly Steak Subs. It’s next to Tonic Kitchen and Juice Bar.

Just a crosswalk away from the always bustling Saint Marys, Kibo will have access to a hospital-full of hungry potential customers.

Given the location and small space, the plan is that Kibo will be mostly a takeout place, like Tinn’s was.

While details about the project are still being worked out, the hope is to open the doors in mid- to late August.

Kibo’s menu will be mostly what the name suggests … with a few unexpected surprises.

Here’s a description from the manager of the new eatery’s Facebook page:

“Kibo Teriyaki Express specializes in the famous chicken/beef/shrimp with our signature teriyaki sauce served with rice and salad. We also will serve burrito wraps with salad or french fries … also a fresh-made sandwich with a Spanish and Vietnamese fusion.”
