HUNTINGTON - In preparation for a roof and HVAC replacement at Spring Valley High School, administrators have put into effect changes in the normal traffic pattern at the school.

All parent and student traffic will now enter the small student lot gate and immediately turn left. Rows one and two, the closest to Spring Valley Drive, will be blocked off at the start of the row closest to the school. The lot’s third row is intended to be used by those planning to turn right on Spring Valley Drive when leaving the lot. The fourth and final row will be reserved for those planning to turn left upon departure.

According to a school release, the morning drop-off line will follow the same procedure. There will be no traffic behind the school, and students and parents can no longer access the staff lot. The bus lane in front of the school is reserved for bus traffic only from 6:45 to 8 a.m. and 2:45 to 3:30 p.m.

Those who regularly pick up students from the school will now be required to fill out a form prior to the scheduled 3:15 p.m. pickup time. The form can be found online and should be returned to the school. Students will not be released without a release form on file.

Those who do not regularly pick up students are asked to send a release form with the student on the same day.

Student drivers do not need the release form and will be released at 3:20 p.m.

Officials have said the projects at the school are expected to extend through the rest of the school year and perhaps into the summer.

The two contracted projects now underway were bid out to Boggs Roofing and Manhiem Construction on Nov. 13 during a regular meeting of the Wayne County Board of Education at an estimated total cost of $2,945,995. The Board of Education received $3.6 million from the School Building Authority (SBA) Needs Project grant that was approved in 2017 to be used in part at SVHS.
