Alcohol Blamed for Deaths in Ukraine
KIEV, Ukraine (AP) _ Two Ukrainian army officers and a student died after sharing a bottle of vodka that might have been tainted, a newspaper reported today.
Soldiers searching for the officers found the three bodies, all seated around a table with a bottle of vodka on it, the Fakty newspaper said. The deaths occurred this week in Starychi, near the Polish border.
Investigators believe the vodka was tainted, Fakty reported.
President Leonid Kuchma said last month that a quarter of all alcoholic drinks sold in Ukraine are either smuggled or illegally produced, and many are tainted.
