Harvest Prep knocks off Wheelersburg in Ohio Region 11 championship

ATHENS, Ohio — Harvest Prep defeated Wheelersburg 52-38 in the Ohio Division III boys high school basketball Region 11 championship game Saturday afternoon at Ohio University’s Convocation Center.

The Warriors (26-2) from Canal Winchester, Ohio, jumped to a 21-12 lead by the end of the first quarter. The game was tied 11-11 before Harvest Prep went on a 10-0 run. The Pirates (26-1), though, held the Warriors scoreless in the second quarter to pull within 21-18 by halftime.

Wheelersburg trailed 43-39 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Harvest Prep used a 19-9 run to pull away for the victory and earn a spot in the state tournament next week at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center in Columbus.

Tanner Holden, a 6-foot-6 senior who has signed with Wright State University, led Wheelersburg with 22 points. Holden scored 13 in the second half.

Harvest Prep advances to the Final Four to take on the Region 12 champion, either Cincinnati Purcell Marian or Anna, at noon Thursday. The Region 9 champion, either Mogadore or Cleveland Heights Lutheran East, plays the Region 10 titlist, either Coldwater or Oregon Cardinal Stritch, at 2 p.m. Thursday in the other semifinal. The winners meet for the state championship at 10:45 a.m. Saturday.
