No. 24 Mississippi 68, Kentucky 60
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) _ Doriann Johnson and Lisa Miller scored 14 points apiece to lead No. 24 Mississippi to a 68-60 Southeastern Conference victory over Kentucky on Wednesday night.
With 9:32 left in the first half, Kentucky (4-9 overall, 0-2 SEC) trailed only 18-15. However, Ole Miss (10-3, 1-0) went on a 20-4 run to open up a 38-19 halftime lead.
The Rebels also scored the first six points of the second half to grab their largest lead at 44-19 before Kentucky started a comeback. Shaunda Roberts scored 20 of her 25 points in the second half to lead Kentucky’s charge.
With 1:08 remaining in the game, Kentucky had cut the lead to five points. But Ole Miss forced a five-second call on an inbounds play and hit three free throws down the stretch.
Yolanda Moore added 13 points for Mississippi.
Roberts also had a career-high 12 rebounds. Kim Denkins had 20 points and 10 rebounds for Kentucky.
