‘Cats’: Updated revivial making Hartford stop
“Cats,” the record-breaking musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber that has captivated audiences in more than 30 countries and 15 languages, is now on tour across North America, including a stop at Hartford’s Bushnell for eight performances Tuesday, Jan. 29, though Sunday, Feb. 3.
Hartford is the second of 24 cities planned for the first year of the revivial tour, which features new choreography by “Hamilton” Tony Award-winner Andy Blankenbuehler, based on the original choreography by the late Gillian Lynne.
In addition to new choreography, the tour also reflects updated sound and lighting design for a new generation, while maintaining Trevor Nunn’s original direction.
Winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, “Cats” tells the story of one magical night when an extraordinary tribe of cats gathers for its annual ball to rejoice and decide which cat will be reborn. And, of course, the show includes one of the most treasured songs in musical theater — “Memory.”
