Bus swerves off road, kills 21 on Brazil highway
SAO PAULO (AP) — A bus swerved off a northeastern Brazilian road on Sunday, killing at least 21 people who were traveling to the coastal city of Fortaleza, police said.
At least 20 other people were injured in the accident.
Authorities said the bus driver apparently dodged a motorcycle and veered off the highway on Sunday in the city of Caninde, 70 miles (115 kilometers) southeast of Fortaleza beach.
Emergency personnel found 21 people dead at the scene, police said. Another 20 or so passengers were sent to a nearby hospital with severe wounds.
The bus company Viacao Princesa said the accident occurred when the driver lost control and the bus left the roadway.
