Nobody hurt in Janesville apartment building fire; eight families displaced
A fire at an apartment building in Janesville Wednesday night caused an estimated $260,000 in damage and displaced eight families.
Nobody was injured in the fire at the Village Green East Apartments, 1616 Morningside Drive, while a dog was rescued from one apartment.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but Janesville Fire Department officials told WISC-TV an outdoor propane grill could be the source.
Arriving fire units found the fire was on the outside of the two-story building and was extending to the roof.
Additional departments from Edgerton and Milton were requested, and the fire was knocked down and brought under control within 15 minutes of the first units arriving on scene.
