Man suspected of being in country illegally arrested on drug charges

A man arrested on drug charges in Lake Havasu City was turned over to the Border Patrol after it was discovered he was in the country illegally.

Lake Havasu City Police say they arrested Jorge Suarez, 44, of Phoenix, on felony charges of possessing heroin and methamphetamine, three felony counts for possessing drug paraphernalia, and a misdemeanor charge of driving under a suspended license. A Havasu officer conducted a traffic stop on Nov. 5 near the intersection of South Acoma Boulevard and Maricopa Avenue after noticing someone driving a car with an unreadable license. According to police, Suarez was driving on a suspended license. As officers arrested Suarez, they conducted a search on his vehicle and found 4.3 grams of heroin, .6 grams of methamphetamine, and a metal smoking pipe, the report said.

Police reports state that after being booked into his holding cell, Suarez was identified as being an ICE fugitive by Border Patrol. He was placed in Mohave County Jail on an immigration hold, pending transfer to the custody of Border Patrol.
