Lady ’Stangs enter state championship tourney as south’s second seed

NEEDLES — Lady ’Stangs varsity softball opens the NIAA 2A State Championship tournament at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 16, facing Silver Stage, the No. 1 seed from the NIAA 2A North League, at The Meadows School in Las Vegas.

Going into the South League tournament unbeaten, Needles’ girls finished as second seed behind Lincoln County. The Lady Lynx took the South League title 13-6 in the championship round after Needles forced a Game 7 with an 11-5 win over Lincoln in Game 6.

The Lady ’Stangs opened the south league tournament May 9 with a 14-2 win over Laughlin in Game 1. Lincoln County beat The Meadows 10-9 in Game 2, according to the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association.

The Meadows defeated Laughlin 18-2 in Game 3. Lincoln defeated Needles 5-1 in Game 4. Needles defeated The Meadows 22-17 in Game 5 to enter the May 10 championship round from the losers’ bracket in the double-elimination tournament.

The Lady ’Stangs hosted the Lady Lynx in a regular season doubleheader on April 12, winning 16-8 and 11-10.

The Meadows School is at 8601 Scholar Ln., southeast of the intersection of West Lake Mead Boulevard and North Rampart Boulevard in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas.
