Colleen Whitlow Sworn in As Mead Mayor
Colleen Whitlow was sworn in as Mead’s mayor Monday night, ending a five-month mayoral vacancy since the June resignation of Gary Shields .
Whitlow defeated Mayor Pro Tem Joyce Palaszewski in this month’s election, capturing 54.4 percent of the 2,225 votes counted in the town.
Whitlow ran for mayor as a sitting Board of Trustee member against the incumbent Shields in April and lost that election by 47 votes .
The longtime Mead resident will serve out the remainder of his term through April 2020.
Whitlow, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is the president of the Mead Area Chamber of Commerce, a town news release stated.
“I am honored to be the next mayor of Mead and to have the opportunity to work closely with the Board of Trustees on the mission, vision and core values of our community. I will work to establish transparent and accountable services — ensuring prosperity, safety and collaboration — and to create responsible growth while supporting our Mead schools and businesses,” Whitlow stated in the release.
