IH 610 southbound at Woodway to be closed this weekend
Houston-area drivers should plan different routes around the IH 610/West Loop this weekend with all southbound main lanes scheduled to be closed the entire weekend.
According to a news release from the Texas Department of Transportation, workers will be hanging steel beams over the highway as part of an elevated bus lane project at IH 610/West Loop southbound at Woodway Drive.
“There will be a total closure of IH 610/West Loop southbound mainlanes starting Friday, Nov. 9, at 9 p.m. to Monday, Nov. 12 at 5 a.m.,” TxDOT reported.
Woodway crosses under IH 610 at the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center.
To get around the construction, southbound drivers will be able to detour the closure by “exiting at Woodway, following the IH 610 southbound Frontage Road to the next entrance ramp onto IH 610 southbound. There will be police officers at the Woodway intersection to direct traffic.”
The IH 610 West Loop Dedicated Bus Lane project is an attempt to improve mobility and safety by “adding dedicated right of way and separating buses from general traffic to help reduce congestion on IH 610/West Loop,” TxDOT reports.
The project is working in tandem with the dedicated bus lane project under construction by the city of Houston and Uptown Management District, which is already under way from IH 610/West Loop to Richmond.
Road closure information will be posted at www.houstontranstar.org.
