Petti Signs a Deal with ECHL Team
LOWELL -- One guy’s starting his professional career, the other is retiring.
Tewksbury native Derek Petti, 23, has signed his first pro contract. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound forward has joined the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL. The former Tewksbury High star just wrapped up a four-year career at Merrimack College.
He scored 20 goals and 49 points at Merrimack.
At the other end of the spectrum, ex-UMass Lowell standout Laurent Meunier, 40, retired this week after a lengthy pro career mostly spent in Europe. The native of France played this season in Switzerland.
He scored 58 points in 62 games for UML over two seasons, leaving school in 2002 after his sophomore season.
